Dark Was The Night
From the Dark Was The Night album, recorded in support of the Red Hot Organization, Ben Gibbard teamed up with Feist for "The Train Song." You can stream the track online today at the Dark Was The Night MySpace page. More information below and at http://www.darkwasthenight.com/.
Dark Was The Night will be released on February 17th, 2009. Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National produced the album, and John Carlin, the founder of the Red Hot Organization was the executive producer. A total of 32 exclusive tracks have been recorded for the compilation. It will be available as a double cd/triple vinyl/download and will benefit the Red Hot Organization and their mission to raise funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS. Red Hot was founded on the premise that even without a cure, AIDS remains a preventable disease – and music is a great vehicle to raise money and awareness for it. This is the 20th year of Red Hot, and this is the 20th release!

An exclusive Death Cab for Cutie video of the band recording "Cath..." for the website www.daytrotter.com appears in the latest issue of (RED)WIRE, a new weekly digital music magazine from the (RED) network. This video of the Daytrotter Session recorded at Studio X in Seattle was directed by Alex Simmons. All proceeds from (RED)WIRE go to fight HIV and AIDS in Africa.

New Shows: Australia 2009
After their sold out tour in August 2008, Death Cab for Cutie has announced their return to Australia in 2009 for a run of dates this February. They kick off the tour with an outdoor show in Fremantle, and then head to intimate theatre surrounds in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Tickets go on sale January 9th; show and ticket information is available at www.deathcabforcutie.com/tours.

Grammy Nominations
On Wednesday night, The Recording Academy announced nominations for the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. Death Cab for Cutie, with their 2008 release of Narrow Stairs, have been nominated in two categories:
Best Rock Song for "I Will Possess Your Heart"
Best Alternative Music Album for "Narrow Stairs"

Something About Airplanes Re-issue, Ben Q&A
Death Cab for Cutie and Barsuk Records, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the studio album, Something About Airplanes, are re-issuing the album as a Deluxe Edition. The Something About Airplanes Deluxe Edition features redesigned artwork and packaging, liner notes by Sean Nelson and a bonus disc including the band's first ever Seattle performance in the Crocodile Cafe in February 1998. It is available for order now at the Barsuk shop.
